If dancing is so much fun, then double the dancing would be so so much fun, right? We’re giving you a double dose of dance parties this month, following up our rockin’ 2012 return with a second January date on Sunday the 29th. And this dance party playlist is going to have a special theme, too, and we want your requests to help make it extra awesome! Read on for all the details…

- wear whatever your heart desires but something that’s good for dancing in for 75 minutes…
- there is water available there, but if I were you, I’d bring a big bottle for myself

Special DDPP Playlist Theme! DJ Suzie G is trying out a themed playlist this time around, and she wants your help. All of the songs in this playlist will have the word “dance” (or a variation, such as “dancer”/”dancing”) in the title. This means you can definitely expect some Lady Gaga and some Men Without Hats to make appearances, along with some other new and old dance faves. Got any requests for songs with “dance” in the title? Post ‘em in the comments or send us an email at ddpptoronto [at] gmail [dot] com.

My fellow den mother, DJ Criss-a-Tron, might have been stuck at home with a nasty cold on Sunday, but we still danced our hearts out/legs off on her behalf on Sunday…and she was there with us in musical spirit, too! Crissy was responsible for the kick-ass playlist we all grooved to on Sunday, and if you weren’t there (or you want a reminder of what tunes you heard!), here’s the full rundown:

Screw chocolate – check out this dancing advent calendar!

Okay, okay, you can still have your chocolate advent calendar, too. Goodness knows that’d be hard to give up! But I wanted to share another amazing advent calendar that I just discovered…a dancing advent calendar! Called The Art of Dancing, the calendar features two guys, Lewis and Luke, performing a spontaneous dance number on camera, one video for each day in December leading up to Christmas. So far they’ve danced to songs as wide ranging as Dick Dale’s “Misirlou”, to the White Stripes’ “Fell in Love With a Girl” to the Cantina Band song from the original Star Wars movie. The videos are super fun and have certainly gotten me to get up and dance along with them – we hope it’ll inspire you to do some office or living room dancing, too! P.S. In case you haven’t heard, DDPP is taking December off…you all seem to be too busy dancing at your holiday parties to dance with us! But we’ll be back in action in January with TWO dance parties: one on January 8 and one on January 29. All the usual time/date info, 263 Adelaide St. W. from 3:30-5:00 p.m. We’ll do a full announcement post closer to the date to remind y’all. Happy holidays from all of us to all of you!

P.S. Have you ladies heard of the awesome Girl Walk // All Day project? It’s a feature-length dance music video following three dancers in New York City, set to Girl Talk’s fantastic dance mash-up album All Day. They’ve just released a new movie trailer that is kick-ass awesome and makes me want to run through the streets of TO dancing. The full movie will be released in chapters on their website starting in November, or you can request a screening of it in Toronto! Check out the trailer below:

Introducing your newest DDPP Toronto Den Mother…and our new Twitter account!

Hey there lovely dancing ladies! This here is a short post introducing myself as DDPP Toronto’s newest Den Mother, DJ Suzie G! (My DJ name is still a work-in-progress: rockin’ name suggestions are more than welcome.) Crissy and Oonagh have wonderfully invited me to join their ranks as one of the co-organizers of Toronto’s awesomest dance party group, and I’m super ridiculously pumped to be on board! I’ve been a regular attendee at DDPP for two years now (!), and I love being able to take the dance moves I perfect in my living room and bust ‘em out in a room full of kick-ass women.

In other exciting news…we’re now on Twitter! I’m sure you all already know about our Facebook group, but now you can also chat with us in 140 characters or less. If you’re as Twitter-obsessed as we are, go follow us @DDPPToronto to chat about all things fun and dance-y. We’re going to be running an awesome daily feature called #miniDDPP where we’ll link you to a kick-ass dance break song to add some groove to your day, so stay tuned for that and be sure to tweet us your #miniDDPP suggestions, too!
